Shana Tovah to everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah in New South Wales this year.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is a special time for the Jewish community. It commemorates Hashem’s creation of the world and begins the Days of Awe, a period of reflection on the past year and repentance.

A traditional feature of Rosh Hashanah is the blowing of the shofar, the ram’s horn in synagogue. Another is the large family gathering over traditional food.

However, these and other activities will again have to be curtailed because of COVID-19 and the restrictions put in place to counter its spread.

We understand that the observance of high holy days will be different this year.

The NSW Government thanks the Jewish community for your efforts which are helping to save lives.

May you enjoy a happy and healthy Rosh Hashanah and may the coming year be a sweet one for you all.

Shana Tova Umetukah!
