The Zionist Council of NSW has announced the appointment of Arsen Ostrovsky as its Director of Israel Affairs.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Arsen grew up in Sydney, where he attended Randwick Boys’ High School and the University of Wollongong, after which he practised as a solicitor. He was an active member of the NSW Jewish community on both a volunteer and professional level, including with the Zionist Council of NSW, AUJS and a number of other Jewish & pro-Israel organisations.

He is a leading pro-Israel advocate, international human rights lawyer and Executive Director of The Israeli-Jewish Congress (IJC), an Israel-based NGO supporting Israel around the world and working with pro-Israel allies to combat Antisemitism, BDS and the delegitimization of the Jewish state.

An acclaimed speaker, Arsen has testified and spoken in support of Israel before the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UN in New York, the European Parliament, the Knesset and various capitals and high-level gatherings in Europe, the United States and around the world, including Australia.

He is considered an expert on Israel advocacy, Antisemitism, BDS, as well as international law, United Nations, the Arab – Israeli conflict and digital diplomacy.

In 2018, Arsen was awarded the prestigious Nefesh B’Nefesh Bonei Zion Prize for ‘Israel Advocacy’ in recognition of his ‘exemplary dedication and accomplishments, defending and representing the State of Israel in the international arena and embodying the spirit of modern-day Zionism.’

Before making Aliyah in 2012, Arsen worked as a Research Fellow at the prestigious Hudson Institute, based in New York, where his research focused on the United Nations, Arab-Israeli conflict, Antisemitism, Counterterrorism and International Human Rights Law.

Arsen is currently based in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he remains a strong and proud proponent of the special alliance and friendship between Australia and Israel.

“The Zionist Council welcomes the addition of Arsen to our team.  Advocating effectively for Israel and ensuring that our voice is heard is something we consider to be imperative.  He is our eyes and ears on the ground in Israel and will be reporting in real time on issues as they unfold,”  Richard Balkin, President.
