“We are alone – you are alone. Let’s be alone together.”With these words, Israeli President Shimon Peres closed the 18th Maccabean Games at a ceremony highlighting the best of Israeli talent.

Held in the historic fortress of Latrun between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, the Closing Ceremony  was one amazing display of choreagraphed performances peppered with the inevitable speeches from high-ranking Maccabi officials.

The show had everything. From the traditional well-loved Jewish songs to displays featuring the many cultures outside of Judiasm that have their kaleidoscopic presence with Israel’s multi-cultural community.

It was hard to pick one above the others and the generation of the solid international Jewish spirit has never been seen in stronger light than it was last night as representatives of over 60 countries stood side by side lapping up the brilliance of the performers.

There was nothing tacky about the Show. The costumes were top class, the singers were top class, the sets were top class and the direction and presentation was outstanding.

When the evening was over and the inevitable trading of team uniformes complete, more than 7000 Jews headed into the massive car parks to find the bus that would take them back to their hotels where they would prepare to check out and return to their home countries. Most had no doubt that, all being well, they would return.

It was an evening which showed  the Maccabi spirit at its best
