As record storms battered Sydney on the weekend, Shlomie Slavin celebrated his Barmitzvah getting up at the crack of dawn the day after to help his family cook for emergency workers.

The Slavin family headed out on Sunday morning from OBK’s Bondi kitchen to the State Emergency Services Maroubra base with enough food to feed fifty exhausted emergency workers working through the night to assist those affected in the beach-side suburb by the howling winds and angry seas.

The team at Our Big Kitchen had prepared hot dogs, rice, salads and noodles to help feed the stretched emergency workers.

Our Big Kitchen’s Rabbi Dovid Slavin told J-Wire: “They were extremely grateful for the help we could offer…but for Shlomie it ended up being a particularly memorable Barmitzvah with the gratitude for the gift he helped give in itself becoming a special Barmitzvah gift for him.”

Todah for this cute story, Henry – so enjoyed it. What a sweet looking bar mitzvah boy, too. Lizzie in Central Vic.
