The Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance Australia (JOFA) will host Rabbanit Devorah Evron for an upcoming event on ZOOM.

The event, titled “In Conversation with Rabbanit Evron” will be facilitated by experienced moderator and JOFA Australia board member Frances Prince, who is also an Executive Member of the Jewish Community Council Victoria (JCCV).

As many states of Australia are in lockdown, this event will allow people the opportunity to hear from a gifted educator and leader in Israel at a time when travel is not possible.

Rabbanit Devorah Evron is the director of the Ohr Torah Stone’s Susi Bradfield Women Institute of Halakhic Leadership at Midreshet Lindenbaum and the first-ever female spiritual leader of Bar Ilan University. Rabbanit Devorah is also a Morat Halakha, a teacher of Talmud and other Jewish Texts. An active member of Kolech and Beit Hillel, Rabbanit Devorah lives in the Galil, is married to Yuval and is a mother and grandmother.

“Rabbanit Devorah Evron is an impressive Torah scholar and we are very excited to see her recent appointment as the first-ever spiritual leader of Bar Ilan University in Israel,” said Nomi Kaltmann, JOFA Australia president. “We are very blessed to welcome her to Australia for the first time, via ZOOM, and look forward to an evening that promises to be a thoughtful and interesting conversation.”

Frances Prince will be facilitating the ZOOM conversation that will focus on four main areas, including Rabbanit Evron’s religious upbringing, her journey in Jewish education, the five-year training program she recently completed and her view on the future of the evolving role of Orthodox Jewish women.

“Rabbanit Devorah Evron’s deep commitment to Torah scholarship and learning gives many young women inspiration as they see her as a role model demonstrating the opportunities that exist today for Orthodox women who would like to further their studies,” said Prince, a board member of JOFA Australia.  “We look forward to welcoming her to Australia and hope that men and women in the community benefit from hearing her.”
