Zionism Victoria congratulates the Labor Government on its historic win at last weekend’s state election.

Yossi Goldfarb

Zionism Victoria President Yossi Goldfarb said, “Daniel Andrews’ commitment to both Israel and the Jewish community has been unwavering over the past eight years, evidenced most recently with his adoption of the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism announced at the Zionism Victoria Parliamentary Yom Ha’atzmaut reception in May and underlined by his pledge just two weeks ago of $3million to tackle this insidious scourge.

“We look forward to working with the Premier and his Ministers in implementing programs to achieve this end and advancing multiculturalism within Victoria.”

Mr Goldfarb added, “At the same time, we express our utmost thanks to outgoing Liberal Leader Matthew Guy, also a staunch supporter of Israel and the community. Indeed, it was at our Annual Assembly a year ago this month that he announced that his party would adopt the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism. We wish Matthew and his family all the very best for the future.”

Mr Goldfarb continued, “We also offer our congratulations to Deputy Liberal Leader and Member for Caulfield David Southwick on his re-election following a very tight race.

“David has time and again proved to be an outstanding representative, championing causes close to the hearts of Caulfield residents as well as Victoria’s Jewish community.

“We also pay tribute to his principal challenger, Labor’s Lior Harel, an active member of the community for many years. We have no doubt Lior would have been an exceptional Member of Parliament and we wish him well for the future.

Mr Golfarb concluded, “A hearty mazaltov as well to Member for Box Hill Paul Hamer, who served as Co-Convenor of Parliamentary Friends of Israel along with David.

“Paul represents his electorate and the community with distinction, and – as we prepare to celebrate Israel’s 75th anniversary – we very much look forward to working with both him, David and other members of the group to mark this milestone in Parliament.”
