President of the Zionist Federation of Australia, Jeremy Leibler said: “On behalf of the Australian Jewish community we offer our congratulations to Anthony Albanese, Albo, on his election as leader of the Labor party and in anticipation to Richard Marles for his expected appointment as Deputy Leader”.

“The Labor party has a proud history of supporting the Australian Jewish community, including notably supporting the establishment of the State of Israel under the leadership of Doc Evatt. We look forward to seeing this support continue within the entire leadership team of the Labor party.”

“We also pass on our best wishes to Bill Shorten and thank him for his six-year leadership of the Australian Labor Party. Mr Shorten has been and I’m sure will remain a great friend of the Jewish community and we acknowledge his long-standing commitment and support for the Australia-Israel alliance.”

“The ZFA is proud that support for Israel is a bipartisan issue in Australia and to that end, we look forward to continuing to work with the Australian Labor Party and its new leadership,” Mr Leibler concluded.

The Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council and The Executive Council of Australian Jewry have previously congratulated the new Leader of the Opposition.
