This promotion is in addition to OA’s existing range of initiatives to entice the opera-curious art lover to take the plunge into the exciting and entertaining world of opera.

“For years now, Opera Australia has been deeply committed to ensuring that people from all walks of life can access the excitement and drama of this incredible art form for little or no cost.

“Schemes like the $20 Susan & Isaac Wakil Foundation Access Program and our Opera for Students program aim to bring the magic of opera to newcomers. And there is no better way to experience opera for the first time than this wonderful production of La Bohème in the Sydney Opera House,” said Opera Australia CEO Fiona Allan.

Complete with fairy lights and fishnets by award-winning designers Brian Thomson and Julie Lynch, this production premiered in 2011 and quickly became one of Opera Australia’s most beloved productions.

Having opened in January 2023 once again in the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House, La Bohème has proven that its beauty and poignancy continue to delight audiences. “Opera favourite La Bohème never fails as a showstopper” – Daily Telegraph.

An all-star cast performs Puccini’s breathtaking music and heartbreaking tale about bohemian romance that remains relevant today. OA Chorus Member Clifford Plumpton has sung in every performance in which OA’s full-time Chorus has been cast. “It is a beautiful experience every time,” said Clifford.

Making the evening even more enjoyable are the moments when attendees unexpectedly recognise tunes and storylines frequenting today’s pop culture, as Puccini’s opera-inspired films such as Moulin Rouge!, RENT the musical, Della Resse’s R&B hit ‘Don’t You Know’? and more.

Highly recommended, “La Bohème is the perfect one to start with if you’re not familiar with opera or you want to take someone along as an operatic introduction.” – Sydney Arts Guide.

To access the 200 cent tickets, simply register on Opera Australia’s website and winners will be selected via a ballot system.

Winners will be drawn and notified on 8 February 2023, and will then have 48 hours to redeem and pay for their choice of one or two tickets at 200 cents each to a performance of La Bohème on an evening of their choosing (subject to availability).
