Taking the lead in philanthropy
What does it mean to give meaningfully? To lead with values? To inspire change that lasts?

UIA and JCA 2024 Fellows in NSW
For a new generation of Jewish leaders, the answer lies in the intersection of passion, purpose, and philanthropy. The Philanthropy Fellowship is where that intersection comes to life and where emerging changemakers are able to take their first bold steps toward shaping the future.
In Victoria, the Philanthropy Fellowship is powered by UIA, while in New South Wales, it is powered as a collaboration between UIA and the JCA. Both programs are delivered by the Australian Jewish Funders (AJF).
Now entering its fifth year in NSW and third in Victoria, and accepting applications for the 2025 cohort, the Fellowship is more than a professional development program. It’s a platform for growth, change and learning. Held over six weeks in Melbourne and five weeks in Sydney, the course equips participants with the mindset, tools and network to lead with conviction and understanding.
At its core, the Philanthropy Fellowship reflects a simple but profound belief that the future of our Jewish community depends on the values-driven leadership of those willing to step up. It invites people aged 25–40 who are ready to give their time, talent, treasure, ties, and testimonies and align their personal values with their philanthropic ambitions.
Through hands-on learning, expert-led sessions and dynamic conversations, participants explore their passions and untapped interests, trends in philanthropy and innovative models of funding as well as navigating the ‘new’ antisemitism and its implications on our community. Participants also gain access to a network of leaders who themselves are reshaping the way we think about philanthropy.
And it works. Fellowship alumni report a 63% increase in knowledge of philanthropic tools, and a 67% increase in confidence talking about philanthropy. Significantly, 90% say the Fellowship created a safe, nurturing space to grow and share their philanthropic journey.
The program culminates in a powerful act of collective generosity called a “night of giving”, whereby the cohort decides together which projects to support. It’s a moment that captures the spirit of the Fellowship: learning with purpose, leading with heart, and giving with impact.
As we look toward the next chapter of Jewish life in Australia and beyond, the Philanthropy Fellowship is building the leaders who will carry us forward. If you’re ready to take your place among them, now is your moment to connect.
Applications for the 2025 Philanthropy Fellowship are now open and will run in VIC from 17 August to 16 September and in NSW from 24 August to 17 September 2025.
