Rabbis meet the Prime Minister
Tthe first ever delegation from Australia’s peak and preeminent Jewish religious leadership body – ORA – The Organisation of Rabbis of Australasia, has met with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott in Canberra.
Senior Executive Members of ORA met with the Prime Minister in his office to discuss opportunities to build bridges between Government and the religious leadership of the Country.
President of ORA, Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant thanked the Prime Minister personally, and offered the religious leadership’s deep appreciation for his ongoing and unwavering support for Israel and the Australian Jewish Community.
During the hour-long discussion, Rabbi Kluwgant raised a number of issues of relevance to the Australian Rabbinate.
“It was most poignant that this landmark event took place on Holocaust Remembrance Day and the day that commemorates the 70th anniversary of the liberation from Auschwitz,” said Rabbi Kluwgant. “The Prime Minister is a good friend of the Australian Jewish Community, and his warmth and compassion towards Israel was evident throughout the meeting. Mr Abbott indicated a strong willingness to continue his discussions with ORA towards the future.”
A specially inscribed Menorah was presented to the Prime Minister on behalf of ORA.
ORA Executive members present at the meeting included: Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant, Rabbi Moshe Gutnick, Rabbi Yehoram Ulman, Rabbi Yaakov Glasman, Rabbi Paul Lewin and Rabbi Chaim Ingram. Rabbi Pinchos Feldman also attended as Patron of ORA.
I supose Rabbi Kluwgant would reply : ” Vivien, toyere, chub a leben !!” kinda ” Viviene, dear, get a life !!.
