Rabbi accosted in Perth

A visiting rabbi from Jerusalem has been accosted in a Perth shopping mall.

A member of the Perth community told J-Wire: “Rabbi Halberstam, the Stropkover Rebbe and his shaliach are currently in Australia collecting funds.  In Perth today, at the Morley Galleria shopping centre they were verbally assaulted, threatened and spat on by a gang of six pro-Palestinian youths.  The CSG and WA police are currently investigating the incident.  The Rebbe was reported to be shaken but unharmed.”

WA police have confirmed that an incident took place.

The West Australian newspaper reported that Danny Mayer witnessed the rabbi being accosted and ushered him to his car at which point the youths started banging on it. Mayer told the newspaper that they youths said they were killers and wanted to “fix us up”.

Mayer said that the youths ran away when produced a camera.
