The Don Banks Award is given to a musician who has made an outstanding contribution to Australian Cultural Life, specifically in the field of music.

Deborah Conway told J-Wire: “What an absolute thrill to be acknowledged and singled out by my peers for this award.

It is a significant honour and I am bowled over to receive it.

Like the two gongs that I have already received in the last few months, (the National Living Legend Award and the AM), this too is equally shared with my long term partner in all things musical and beyond, Willy Zygier.

We were invited to close last night’s ceremony with a performance of Book Of Life taken from our album Stories of Ghosts, it was a solemn & quiet conclusion to a night of honouring this year’s brilliant recipients of the Australia Council’s Art Awards, we were in stellar company.”
