The appointment was made following consultation with JAFI Chairman of the Executive, Isaac Herzog and the General Nominating Committee.

The Israeli Society Committee oversees JAFI activities in the area of vulnerable populations, such as youth at risk and Amigour sheltered housing for vulnerable elderly, as well as change agents in Israeli society such as young communities and pre-army academies. The Committee also focuses on strengthening Israel society as a whole, including Jewish, Christian and Muslim citizens.

JAFI Chairman of the Board Michael Siegal said: “[Harold’s] leadership is an essential part of our team due to the many challenges facing The Jewish Agency and I am certain that [his] contribution will be of great help as the Agency meets its many responsibilities. We look forward to continuing working with [Harold] and wish [him] much success in this important position.”

“This appointment not only reflects on the personal standing of Harold as one of our country’s most respected lay leaders internationally, but it is also a wonderful reflection on the standing of UIA Australia and the critical role our organisation and donors play in the global Jewish World. This committee is at the very heart of what we have been doing for over 100 years, and ensures we have a real say in how our donors’ contributions are utilised,” UIA CEO Yair Miller said.
