Our Big Kitchen spreads its wings

Sydney’s commercial kosher kitchen OBK is throwing its total resources in helping those finding these trying times beyond their capabilities…and not just within the Jewish community.

Rabbi Dovid Slavin waits by his pallets for pickups

The initiative is in conjunction with JEMS.

CEO of OBK Rabbi Dr Dovid Slavin told J-Wire: “Apart from distributing donated foodstuffs to charity organisations, I am also seeking out the individual who is finding himself or herself in a predicament never experienced before. Many of those who have found themselves out of work with a family to feed have too much pride to admit it. So I am looking for angels who would be a third party directing us to help those who are in need.”

The organisation is calling for volunteers.

Rabbi Slavin added: “Our Big Kitchen continues to receive donations of food, for which we are very grateful. We also continue to make prepared meals by our volunteers and staff, and together with our fresh food donations remain committed to distributing these to our existing network of organisations and charities who we supply.

But we are seeing a growing demand from individuals and families that have been isolated, have had their income impacted or who, for whatever reason, find themselves in need.

OBK has quality fresh food and prepared meals and we know that there are people in the community who need food, what we need help with is connecting the two! We need volunteers who know of people in need and can distribute this food to them.”

Apart from the usual charities supported by OBK, Rabbi Slavin and his staff and volunteers have delivered food, both fresh and cooked to:
