The list is long. Pro-Palestinian groups have taken to social media to list companies with links to Israel, with one protestor releasing mice into a McDonald’s outlet.

Singled out for BDS treatment are Chemist Warehouse, Spotlight, Anaconda, Harris Scarfe, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Puma, Hewlett Packard, Starbucks…the list goes on.

Mark Leibler told The Australian Financial Review: “It is reminiscent of the tactics employed in Germany in the 1930s, where Jewish businesses were vandalised as part of a very effective campaign to dehumanise Jewish citizens. I would never have imagined it possible in Australia,” he said.

The Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council Executive Director Dr Colin Rubenstein said: “Boycotting businesses because they have Jewish ownership or support Israel is vile and racist.

These boycotts have unnerving echoes of the 1930s when Jewish businesses were targeted in Nazi Germany.

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is a fringe extremist, thoroughly discredited movement.

Boycotts hurt workers and threaten jobs in Australia – and in Israel, ironically, it is utterly counter-productive as it hurts both Jewish and Arab Israeli citizens, and the Palestinian people too.”
