Next month, New Israel Fund Australia Foundation (NIF) will screen episodes in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney  of Magash Hakesef  (The Silver Platter), a  popular Israeli TV miniseries from 2015.

NIFA-LogoFounded in 2011, NIF aims to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of civil and human rights, social and economic justice, democracy, diversity, reconciliation and peace. It also raises funds to empower Israeli civil society through the New Israel Fund. Founded in 1979.

The series poses questions about Israel’s economy and social fabric:

  • How did Israel go from being a highly egalitarian society to an unequal one in 30 years?
  • Why are young Israelis struggling to afford their rent?
  • Why is food so expensive?
  • Why is there such concentrated economic power?
  • How is cronyism destroying the social fabric of Israel?

NIF will be showing the first two episodes of the three-part series. The  will be available for streaming after the screenings.

The first episode features Guy Rolnik, editor of “The Marker”, a leading Israeli financial newspaper. It chronicles his efforts to educate the public about the corruption and cronyism in Israeli society.

The second episode features Yaron Zelekha, Israel’s former accountant general. It focuses on how economic policies are aimed at improving the situation of the rich, while disregarding the needs of the middle and lower class, in particular how young Israelis are being locked out of the housing market.

“This is one of the most important TV series to come out of Israel in recent memory.” said New Israel Fund Australia Executive Director Liam Getreu.

“Many of us have friends and family in Israel who struggle with cost of living pressures and are locked out of the housing market. This is the wake-up call 1.5 million Israelis had last year – that serious reforms are needed in order to protect and boost the middle class” said Gertreu.

Magash Hakesef will be shown:

Sydney on 4 September

Melbourne on 11 September

Perth on 13 September.

  1. Yosi Tal says:

This organisation NIF is a disgrace. It wants to destroy Israel as a “Jewish State” Its a small group of Self Righteous ignoramuses who are supported by that disgraceful George Soros…And we can see what his agenda is…………..

  2. Paul Winter says:

Nothing that the NIF – which I believe really stands for the Nullifying Israel Fraud – can be taken as anything other than anti-Israel agit-prop.

Further, the production may have been paid for by the silver of Israelis, but the elite which considers itself intellectual, has cornered the cultural funding market and subsidises only far left productions. A classic case was when the cabal distributing funds declined to fund a movie of the IDF’s role in the Six Day War on the basis that it failed to show the suffering of the other side.

  3. Marta Mikey Frid says:

The NIF is an extremely anti-Israel NGO supported by Soros and others like him who have donated millions of dollars to the aim of demonizing and destroying Israel. We should not support any of their activities. They are evil people who cannot even substantiate their claims with any veritable evidence.

  4. Rami Reed says:

I would not recommend anything which the NIF offers. This organisation supports many anti Israel organisations such as Adalah
