Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that he will ask his government to vote on a measure to name a new neighbourhood in the Golan after U.S. President Donald Trump, who last month recognized Israeli sovereignty over the area.

“I’m here on the beautiful Golan Heights,” said Netanyahu, travelling with his family. “All Israelis were deeply moved when President Trump made his historic decision to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Therefore, after the Passover holiday, I intend to bring to the government a resolution calling for a new community on the Golan Heights named after President Donald J. Trump.”

Netanyahu won re-election earlier this month and was tasked last week by Israeli President Reuven Rivlin to form his fifth governing coalition, making him the longest-serving prime minister in the country’s history after its first, David Ben-Gurion.

Decades ago the Government of Israel wanted to name a forest there after former Premier of Victoria, Jeff Kennett. Kennett said no and suggested name the forest after the state of Victoria instead. Were is that forest and is it still called Victoria forest?
