My father did not change his name to elude justice
Charles Zentai’s son claims his father’s name was changed when he was a child. The son of the 88-yr-old Hungarian born Zentai told J-Wire that his father was thirteen years old when the Steiner name was changed to Zentai.
He said: “It has often been reported that my father’s name change had something to do with his immigration to Australia and was somehow linked to an attempt to elude justice. This is an entirely false notion which I would like to correct. As you can see from the document and the official translation my father’s name was changed when he was a 13 year old boy in Hungary. It was in fact a decision made by his older sister Julia. He did not have a say in the decision at the time. We will be visiting my father in prison today.
Charles Zentai is now in a Perth jail waiting to hear the Government’s decision whether to extradite him to Hungary to face questioning on the 1944 murder of 18-yr-old Jewish youth Peter Balazs in Budapest.
J-Wire publishes the change of name below.
