Maccabiah: a reunion for Wendy and Trevor after 52 years

Wendy Cooper and Trevor Wainstein went to King David School in Johannesburg, South Africa completing their schooling in 1970.

As time went by,  both emigrated to Australia, Wendy to Sydney, and Trevor to the other side of the country, Perth.

Through a school reunion WhatsApp group, Wendy indicated an interest in attending this year’s Maccabiah as a swimmer.

Wendy had been a state swimmer while at school and missed out on the Maccabiah.
Trevor has participated in three previous Maccabiot in swimming.

Trevor saw Wendy’s WhatsApp and gave her a call telling her about the Maccabiah, and set her on her path.

In December 2020, Wendy recommenced her swimming career after 50 years of retirement. Since then, she has joined a club where there are other ex-Maccabiah swimmers and has swum in state and national championships.
Trevor has participated in swim state championships and the Australian Masters Games.
They have been talking regularly for the past eighteen months and looking forward to meeting up in Israel.
Finally, at the Bridge ceremony, a solemn occasion, they met up after 52 years.
They are both members of the Australian masters swimming team and have had a wonderful time enjoying success at the games.
Wendy has won several Gold  & Silver medals so far, with more opportunities to come
Trevor has won a Bronze.
The Maccabiah does more than generate new friendships but also can rekindle old ones,
