Professor Henry Brodaty – There is a lot we can do to improve people’s quality of life for many years with dementia
Morry Frenkel speaks with Professor Henry Brodaty, Scientia Professor of Ageing and Mental Health at UNSW and Co-Director of the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing. He is an internationally recognised leader in dementia research, policy and care, and was this year named both Senior Australian of the Year and NSW Senior Australian of the Year. Professor Brodaty provides the facts and figures about dementia in Australia and the impact on sufferers, families, carers and society in general, of this group of conditions that affect the brain and cause a decline in memory, thinking and the ability to carry out everyday activities. Professor Brodaty also talks about the current state of testing for Alzheimer’s disease and the available medications, as well as describing his Maintain Your Brain research that revealed how changing various aspects of lifestyle can slow the progression of dementia.
