Israeli landmarks in Jerusalem on Sunday honoured the United States with special gestures of gratitude following the American military’s aerial operation against Iran’s nuclear facilities the previous night.

The Knesset was lit in the colours of the U.S. flag with the Knesset Guard and Speaker Amir Ohana saluting President Donald Trump, June 22, 2025.                   Photo by Noam Moskowitz/Knesset Press Office.

The front of the Knesset building was illuminated in red, white, and blue, while the ceremonial plaza was adorned with American flags. An honour guard was stationed at the site, with the participation of Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana.

“On behalf of the Knesset, which represents all the citizens of Israel, I wish to thank President Trump for a historic, courageous, and profoundly moral act; one that will be remembered in the annals of history as the day the U.S. saved the world from the tremendous danger of weapons of mass destruction in the hands of the Ayatollah regime,” Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana said, according to Maariv.

He added, “President Trump proved today that he is not only the leader of the free world, but also the most important president the U.S. has had in modern history, the best friend the Jewish people have ever had in the White House, and the closest-ever partner Prime Minister Netanyahu, without whom this day would not have happened.”

In addition, the Israeli and American flags were projected onto the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City, while in Tel Aviv, the City Hall was illuminated with both Israeli and U.S. flags as a token of appreciation.

U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Sunday that the American military’s strikes had “obliterated” Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, as he revealed details about “Operation Midnight Hammer.”

The U.S. military had completed its mission to “destroy or severely degrade Iran’s nuclear program,” said Hegseth, adding that the operation against Tehran “was not and has not been about regime change.”

Netanyahu on Sunday prayed at the Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City, giving thanks for the United States joining the war against Iran.

The prime minister recited a special prayer for Trump, known in Hebrew as Hanoten teshuah (“He who grants deliverance”), asking that God bless him for standing with the Jewish nation and against evil, Israel’s Channel 12 News reported.

The premier and his wife also offered a prayer for the safety of Israeli security forces, as well as the remaining 50 hostages held captive by Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip for 626 days.
