An Israeli Cabinet Minister and a military hero will be guest speakers at this year’s JNF Gala Dinners.

 

Yaacov Peri

Yaacov Peri

Yaacov Peri, is a former Head of Shin Bet, one of Israel’s “Gatekeepers” and a one time  CEO of Israeli telcom giant Cellcom Israel.

Peri is currently Israel’s Minister for Science, Technology & Space.

He will speak on his time in Shin Bet and Israel’s technological innovation.

As President and CEO of Cellcom Israel Ltd, he and his management team built the company up to its current position as the leading mobile operator in Israel. Cellcom was Israel’s second licence operator for cellular network and under his leadership it grew from 100 employees to over 4000 and 2.5 million customers.

Peri has sat on many boards since including Mizrahi Tefahot Bank.

Yaacov Peri was elected to the Knesset as a member of the new Yesh Atid party.

His address will also include information about the technological/corporate opportunities in Israel today, as well as the current geo-political situation in the Middle East.

Avigdor Kahalani

Avigdor Kahalani

Brigadier-Genreal [Ret’d] Avigdor Kahalani, a true hero, is a former career officer in the Israel Defence Forces and a former politician in Israel’s Knesset.

During the Six Day War in 1967, he received the Medal of Distinguished Service for heroism after being badly wounded.

During the 1973 Yom Kippur War Kahalani’s name was etched permanently into Israel’shistory.

Wounded, he gathered the remnants of his tank battalion after the surprise assault and successfully led them in battle to destroy the Syrian tank assault of the Golan Heights, in what became known as the Valley of Tears.

For his heroic efforts he was awarded the highest military decoration, the Medal of Valor, only 40 of which have ever been awarded.

After retiring from the IDF in 1992, he served as a Member of Knesset, including a term as Minister of Internal Security.

Kahalani will give unique insight into his role as commander on the day of the battle and the IDF.

The dinners will take place at the following venues:

Melbourne – Monday, October 28 at Palladium at Crown

Sydney – Wednesday, October 30 at 6 pm at the ATC Ballroom at Randwick Racecourse.

Perth – Sunday, November 3 at Carmel School [Kahalani only]

Adelaide – Tuesday, November 5 at Beit Shalom Synagogue [Kahalani only]

Brisbane – Wednesday, November 6 at St Lucia Golf Club [Kahalani only]
