Rabbi Mendel Kastel and NSW Minister for Health Brad Hazzard have launched Jewish House’s online Hospital: Patient and Staff Resource Portal.

Brad Hazzard shows his Mensch Award after receiving it from Rabbi Mendel Kastel

An Australian first online resource portal designed to give Jewish hospital patients and their families access to cultural, spiritual, emotional and practical information and services, including audio prayers, during times of uncertainty, social isolation and illness.

Using technology as the backbone, this resource portal also provides hospital staff with the policies and knowledge to help them develop an understanding of Jewish traditions, and accommodate their patient’s needs.

Rabbi explained that this portal provides people with “music, reading material, videos, and some of the policies and Jewish laws relating to end of life and transplant issues”.

Brad Hazzard stated that “Mendel Kastel has been amazing in terms of battling for the Jewish community and has done incredible things”. He wasn’t surprised that “we are here launching this portal, which will allow people of Jewish faith to connect so simply.”

Ryan Park, NSW Health Shadow Minister and Member for Keira added that “No doubt, what will happen, is other faiths will take this up. To provide that level of comfort, that cultural awareness, those services people need”, and that this service “will touch the lives of so many people”.

Jewish House is proud to announce the launch of this Australia first online resource portal, which can be accessed via this link, or the QR code available on Jewish House Chaplaincy Brochures which can be found in Hospitals, New South Wales wide.

Rabbi Mendel Kastel also presented the Jewish House Mensch Award to Brad Hazzard for his kindness throughout the pandemic, continued support and friendship.

Rabbi Mendel said that “during Covid, there were a lot of people struggling… and the minister was always available. At times he would pick up the phone personally and ring people in isolation… and for that, I want to say a huge thank you. Brad’s care and love for people is legendary.”

Brad Hazzard was honoured to receive this award and said: “I’m really overcome with that. That actually means a lot to me, so thank you very much”

Jewish House is proud of the relationship they have with NSW Health and Minister Brad Hazzard.
