Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, a special on Iranian Channel 1 was broadcast on Friday.

Foad Izadi

Show host Pejman Karimi said that the Queen’s death was “good news” for the world’s oppressed people, and Iranian academic Foad Izadi of Tehran University’s Global Studies Department said that the Queen was “one of the greatest criminals in the history of mankind.”

Karimi proclaimed that “the Queen of England is dead, and this is considered good news for the world’s oppressed people. After 70 years on the throne, this Queen has left a grade sheet full of crime, abomination and filth.”

Then Izadi stated: “Perhaps, in light of her 70 years on the throne, she should be included in the same list with Hitler.”

I’m not enamoured of many of the US TV commentators, but they can hardly be compared with someone who puts Hitler and Queen Elizabeth II in the same basket! Foad Izadi is not just a TV commentator, he’s a senior academic at Teheran University. It’s not that he’s poorly informed, but rather that he’s pedalling hatred and bigotry through rhetoric that is absurd.

  2. Adrian Jackson says:

So Iran has poorly informed TV commentators just like commentators on some USA TV channels.

  3. Liat Kirby says:

What to say about that?! Foad Izadi doesn’t exactly inspire study with him at Teheran University’s Global Studies Department – I wonder what the course comprises? Perhaps studies in fantasy and delusion ….
