An Alice Springs man has told ABC radio that he has burned all his stock of t-shirts bearing a swastika emblem.

“I’m the village idiot – I’m a dickhead”. Dennis Donahoe pulled no punches in telling ABC he regretted producing the T-shirts

which he attempted to sell from the back of his ute. Alice Springs police told J-Wire: “He told us that not only had he not been able to sell the T-shirts, he had been unsuccessful in even giving them away.”

Holding back tears, Donahue told the national broadcaster that he was not a racist and that it started off as “a bit of a joke”.

Yesterday Donahoe told the ABC’s  Alice Brennan: “I’m probably going to regret it obviously because you do-gooders are just going to make a bloody mockery of it.”

But today, the remorseful would-be retailer said: “I would just like to apologise to anyone who was offended by my stupid remarks. I am not intentionally racist. I am sober now and I probably need therapy.”

Police are investigating. They are following leads that Donahue gave shirts, which also bear the words ‘White Power’ to police officers.

Donahue denied being a member of any racist group.

Jeremy Jones, a long-time reconciliation activist, told J-Wire: “The unfortunate reality is that some pathetic characters make up for their own inadequacies by promoting racism…”
