Thirty two Jewish graves have been desecrated in the South African town of Krugersdorp.

A member of the once thriving community which is now thought to number around 80 told media that nothing like this had ever happened in the graveyard’s 100 plus years’ history.

A fund-raising drive is currently underway to replace the fence which protected the cemetery and which has been stolen.

Locals expect representatives of the South African Board  of Deputies to visit the town about 110 kms from Johannesburg to assess the damage.

J-Wire understands there are members of Australia’s Jewish community who have roots in Krugersdorp.
