Dr Yoaz Hendel served as Director of Communications for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2011-12. The military specialist will be a featured speaker at this year’s Sydney Jewish Writers Festival.

The former Navy SEAL  is currently chairman of the Jerusalem-based Institute for Zionist Strategies who shares his policy analysis with the Israeli public through a weekly radio show and newspaper column.

The strategist attained his PhD at Tel Aviv University writing on military history. He is also acknowledged as being an expert in, and has lectured on, terror and guerrilla warfare.

Dr Hendel is the author of three published books:

  the award-winning Let the IDF Win co-authored with Professor Zaki Shalom about the Al Aksa Intifada and the struggle against terror; 

  •   the award-winning Let the IDF Win co-authored with Professor Zaki Shalom about the Al Aksa Intifada and the struggle against terror; 
  •   a behind the scenes account of Israel’s covert war with Iran titled Israel vs Iran: The Shadow War, co-authored with Yaakov Katz; and
  •   a children’s book titled Aba Yotze L ’Miluim (Daddy Leaves for Reserve Duty), to help parents like himself explain their military service to their children.

Dr Hendel holds the rank of Major in the reserves of the IDF, where he spent six years in active duty as an officer in the Israeli Navy Seals, including in the 2006 Lebanon War and the Gaza War of 2008‐2009, and later in Israel’s security forces. He is a powerful presenter who combines his unique analyses with first-hand experience from the media war and actual battle ground
