The Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) has announced that Professor Gil Troy will be the guest speaker at our Plenary Conference which will be held in Sydney next month.

Gil Troy

Gil Troy is an eminent political historian, a renowned author, media contributor, commentator and contemporary Zionist thinker. Professor Troy is a compelling speaker who will bring nuance, challenge and inspiration to the conference audience.

Troy’s latest book: The Zionist Ideas has garnered exceptional reviews and, as Daniel J. Roth of the Jerusalem Post says: – “(The book) takes a comprehensive approach to unpacking the challenges modern Zionism faces, while simultaneously expanding on the virtues of Jewish self-determination.”

Natan Sharansky puts it eloquently in the foreword: – “Gil Troy demonstrates that we now live in a world of Zionist ideas with many different ways to help Israel flourish as a democratic Jewish state. A revived Zionist conversation, a renewed Zionist vision, can help create a Jewish state that reaffirms meaning for those already committed to it while addressing the needs of Jews physically separated from their ancestral homeland, as well as those who feel spiritually detached from their people. How lucky we are to have this new book, filled with old-new ideas, Theodor Herzl style, to guide this important and timely conversation.”

Professor Troy also serves as the Chairman of Education of Taglit-Birthright Israel and has a regular voice as an Op-Ed contributor to numerous publications worldwide. His articles range from views on Taglit-Birthright, Zionism to Politics, and particularly Israeli politics.

Troy promises to challenge and inspire with his passion and intellect and will be speaking at a series of events hosted by the ZFA in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

The ZFA Plenary Conference will bring together over 120 leaders of the Jewish community from across Australia for a day of discussion, deliberation and interaction, setting the Zionist agenda for Australia for the coming year. Professor Gil Troy’s presentations will no doubt promote open and vigorous discussion on the future of our relationship, as the Australian Jewish community, with Israel, Jewish identity and Zionism.

The plenary will be held on Sunday 25 August.
