Israeli cyber-security firm NSO Group was named in Time magazine’s 2022 list of the 100 most influential companies in the world.

But its success has been marred by allegations that its surveillance software (called Pegasus) was used to spy on journalists, activists and political leaders. Allegations that it was, and is, a tool for dictators.

NSO Group denies the allegations and says its customers are carefully screened and that it only sells its spyware for use against criminals and terrorists.

The problem, of course, is who gets to decide who is a criminal or terrorist.
