Shurat Hadin, an Israeli legal rights group, has filed a lawsuit in a Jerusalem Court on behalf of three Israelis who had intended to attend the concert by “Lorde” and which was subsequently cancelled when she decided to boycott Israel.

The claim for US$13,000 damages has been filed against New Zealanders, Justine Sachs and Nadia Abu-Shanab, who had originally sent a letter to the pop artist urging her to boycott Israel. Sachs is Jewish. It is the first claim filed under the provisions of an Israeli law which allows civil lawsuits against anyone calling for a boycott against Israel. It allows courts to impose damages against defendants.

The Shurat Hadin spokeswoman says that this law has not yet been tested in a court and she hopes that this case will provide a precedent. Although she expressed a belief that legal agreements between Israel and New Zealand would help enforce any ruling in favour of the plaintiffs.

Michael Kuttner said: “Anyone with a knowledge of New Zealand’s current ambivalent attitude towards Israel would say that this was rather optimistic and hardly likely to eventuate.”

Some States in the U.S. have adopted laws which make BDS illegal and the new Israeli legislation would be applicable to them.

    Justine Sachs,
if this letter reaches you–understand a few important things–

you have nothing to be proud of–rather you have allowed yourself to be used as a tool by a combination of racist jew haters and virulent anti israel ideaologues , or a combination.

Instead of promoting mutual tolerance, non violence, and peace between competing communities ie the high road, you have slid down the low road…the easy option of villifying one party as the total wrong whilst white washing the other.

If you are so upset at palestinian mistreatment–go as others with true moral fibre have, and walk the walk–not just talk the talk.
Go to ramallah—teach english, dig ditches, what ever they need…but do more than destructive keyboard warrior games whilst misusing your born identity as some sort of badge of dishonour in sliding the knife into your own people.

Many many jewish people are against holding onto the vast majority of west bank land won in a defensive war in 1967.
But that gives no excuse to turn to those who are on any objective term, an enemy to you and to the jewish people regardless of circumstances…..west bank or not.

Narcissism combined with self loathing is a potent negative energy environment.
At present ,it seems to me that you are enveloped by it.
