On behalf of the Australian Labor Party, I wish J-Wire readers and all members of the Australian Jewish community a happy Chanukah.

May your homes and synagogues be filled with the warm glow of your menorahs during this festival of light.

It is a time of celebration and gratitude, a time of family and giving. Like so many Jewish holidays, it is also a time to reflect on a time when Jewish people faced not only persecution but an existential threat just for being Jewish.

I send my deepest gratitude to the Australian Jewish community for the contribution you have made to the great Australian story that is our multicultural society.

You have played a significant role in the shaping of Australia into the nation it is today.
