Palestinian human rights activist Bassam Eid has addressed a Zionist Federation of New Zealand function in Auckland.
The Jerusalem-born activist spent the first 33 years of his life in the Shuafat refugee camp in Jerusalem.
ZFNZ president Rob Berg told J-Wire: “Bassem Eid spoke on the BDS and how it is detrimental to the Palestinians and to the peace process. The event was attended by over 50 people.”
Highlights of Bassam Eid’s address included:
- first losers from the BDS are the Palestinians
- the settlements are a source of income to the Palestinians
- Hamas, not the Israelis, imposed 3 wars on Gaza
- Only way to a lasting settlement is through negotiations not UN forced sanctions or solutions
- the Palestinians need builders (of a state) not destroyers
- no peace is achievable with Abbas in power
