The 2023 JCCV General Sir John Monash Award was presented to Pauline Rockman at the Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV) AGM on Monday night.

Pauline Rockman receives her award from Mike Debinski and Daniel Aghion

Noah Loven was awarded a Sylvia Gelman Young Leadership Award.

Pauline has been involved in the Melbourne Holocaust Museum (MHM) since 1994. She commenced as a volunteer interviewer in the Testimonies Department, but that was just the start. Shortly after, she became the first woman to join the museum’s board, and eventually, she would hold the role of President and co-president for 17 years. At the AGM, Pauline shared that what inspired her was the “…resilience and message not to hate, to stand up when confronted with injustice and racism…” of Holocaust survivors who made their life here in Melbourne, a message that still resonates today.

Pauline reflected on the growth of MHM, from humble beginnings, a small staff of mainly Holocaust survivors, to an amazing institution with new world-class facilities, that just this week opened its doors.

In addition to her volunteer work with MHM, Pauline is a current member of the Australian delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance and has been involved with USC Shoah Foundation, March of the Living and Yad Vashem in Israel.

Itzik Sztokman (Executive Principal UJEB) presented Noah Loven the award with outgoing JCCV President Daniel Aghion

Sylvia Gelman Young Leadership Award recipient Noah Loven is the Public Affairs Coordinator for the Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS) and was elected to be the 2024 National President of AUJS. At the AGM, Noah attributed his passion for Jewish activism and leadership to his family. He shared that the experience as a participant in the United Jewish Education Board (UJEB) activities allowed him to explore his Jewish identity and the leadership tools to take on further roles in the Jewish Community such as Hineni Youth and Welfare and AUJS. Noah participated in BBYO when it was first introduced to Australia and is currently a Regional Advisor, contributing significantly to the organisation’s growth.

  1. Michael burd says:

What a joke the bar at JCCV must be extremely low to give an award to AUJS a social justice group of lefties who are out of their league at ground zero anti semitism on University Campus which has exploded over the last ten years with the young Palestinian Arab Muslim students and groups forming string alliances with fur example the Socialists

All Aujs is worried about are the tick the box leftist issues with fighting Zionism on campus way down the bottom of the list

If only they and the other leftist mob ACJC would allowed Standwithus on campus when Joel Burnie tried to introduce them on campus at Monash only tho be thrown off by ACJC then head radical anti Zionist Mark Baker with AUJS either supporting ACJC or indifferent same result .
