Today, 14 July, marks the 13th anniversary of the Maccabiah bridge collapse.

On this day in 1997 the catastrophic failure of a pedestrian bridge over the Yarkon River in Tel Aviv led to the death of four Maccabi Australia athletes and injuries to sixty others.

The pedestrian bridge was used by athletes on their march to the Opening Ceremony of the 15th Maccabiah Games.

The Maccabi family commemorates the tragedy before each Maccabiah Games.

The Board of Maccabi Australia, our affiliated State Organisations and Members join the Australian Jewish community in expressing deepest sympathy to the families of the departed; Gregory Small, Yetty Bennett, Elizabeth Sawicki and Warren Zines.
