Top Israeli diplomat to headline 2026 UIA galas
UIA Australia has secured Ron Dermer—widely considered one of Israel’s most influential diplomats of the past decade—as headline speaker for its 2026 Gala Events in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
Dermer, who has served Israel in senior capacities for two decades, was tapped to develop a post-war “Day After” plan for Gaza following the October 7 attacks. In February 2025, he was appointed to lead Israel’s hostage negotiating team.

Regarded as a critical bridge between Jerusalem and successive US administrations, Dermer has been present for pivotal strategic decisions in recent years. He participated in post-war planning sessions with President Donald Trump and was instrumental in brokering the Abraham Accords, which transformed Israel’s regional diplomatic standing.
The 2026 campaign centres on a sweeping reconstruction effort. According to organisers, Israel’s needs extend beyond infrastructure to encompass mental health services, community resilience programmes, welfare support and absorption services nationwide.
“In 1920 Keren Hayesod-UIA helped build a nation that did not yet exist; in 1973 and 2023, we helped Israel endure her darkest moments,” the organisation states, emphasising its continued commitment “to being there for life.”

Michal Uziyahu
Also appearing is Michal Uziyahu, Mayor of the Eshkol Regional Council, whose communities received emergency UIA Australia funding after October 7. She will detail how the support aided recovery efforts and make the case for sustained assistance during the national rebuilding phase.
UIA Australia President Andrew Boyarsky said the community’s 105-year commitment to Israel now faces a critical test. “As Israel enters a long and difficult period of rebuilding, our responsibility is clear,” he said.
Organisers warn tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
