Rabbinical Council of Australia and New Zealand have stated that Jerusalem is the eternal undivided capital of the State of Israel and the Jewish people.

President Rabbi Moshe Gutnick said: “It has been so since King David made it our capital more than a thousand years before the birth of Christianity or Islam.

Throughout the millennia of our dispersion following the Roman conquest, nation and empire in the name of their religions have fought over and occupied our Holy city. Nevertheless, it has remained the focal point of Jewish prayers and yearning with the unwavering belief that one day, as Divinely promised, it would be returned to its rightful owners.  In 1967, in answer to those prayers, our capital was returned to us. There is no force, religious, political or otherwise that can separate Jerusalem from the Jewish people.

We therefore applaud President Donald Trump for formally recognising Jerusalem as our capital. A recognition that reflects the reality on the ground and the promises and declarations of past American administrations as well as the United States Congress. We call on all other nations including Australia to do the same

There is no people on earth that seeks peace more than the people of Israel, but true peace will only be achieved when the nations of the world, including the Palestinian people, recognise and accept our right to live securely in our homeland and our right to our eternal capital.”
