Israel’s President Isaac Herzog has paid tribute to Captain Daniel Perez during an emotional funeral held in Israel.

This solemn occasion marked the return of Captain Perez’s body, a poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made in the ongoing struggle for national security.

Captain Perez heroically fell while defending Nahal Oz, only to be captured by Hamas, with his remains returned to Israeli soil this week as part of the historic agreement.

Standing at the foot of a metaphorical mountain layered with heroism, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of justice, President Herzog addressed the grieving families, bowing in reverence and gratitude.

He said: “Thank you for the sons you raised — warriors of courage who did not hesitate when called to rescue the State of Israel,” he said, his voice filled with solemn determination.

“Because of these brave sons and daughters, we have reached this moment—a moment that brings hope to our people and our entire region.”

President Herzog’s heartfelt words resonated throughout the gathering, where the weight of loss was palpable. He specifically honoured Captain Perez, calling him a beacon of courage and dedication.

He declared: “We must not stop, we must not tire, we must not give up. The mission is not yet complete. We will continue until all are home.”
