Mark Scott, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney, took steps to prevent an event entitled “Palestine: The Case for Global Intifada” from taking place today.

He spoke to co-CEO of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry Peter Wertheim, confirming that in line with the uni’s statement last week and its policies, “the posters are being removed, and the event will not proceed in the University lecture theatre as promoted.”

The posters invited students to “discuss the revolutionary strategy for freeing Palestine and overturning the system that causes Palestine’s oppression and breeds colonial violence” and called for a global Intifada.

Wertheim told J-Wire: “By calling for a ‘Global Intifada’ only a few weeks after Hamas carried out an orgy of mass murder, rape and kidnapping inside Israel, the far left has revealed the depth of the moral rot that now pervades its worldview.  The website of the group that was to host the event glorifies Hamas as ‘a major part of the Palestinian resistance’. This is similar to the far Left’s praise for the genocidal Khmer Rouge in the mid-1970s.

The University authorities are to be commended for recognising this event for what it was: advocacy in support of genocide and terrorism against Jews. We have seen all this before and know where it leads. The University was right to stop its facilities from being abused in this way. Enough is enough. There is no room for violent hate-mongering anywhere in our society, and especially not in our universities, which are supposed to be beacons of enlightenment against prejudice and intolerance, not their incubators.”

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies president David Ossip told The Daily Telegraph: “It is difficult to see how this event, and the advertisement, is anything other than an incitement to violence.”

The inclusion of an image from the Hamas terrorist massacre of October 7 says everything: the organisers are glorifying the savage acts of a recognised terrorist organisation.”

The event had been planned by the socialist group Solidarity.

  1. Yitzhak Shalom Gerichter says:

Showing the bulldozer breaking through the fence to facilitate terrorists entry into Israel to massacre, is equivalent to showing the plane flying in to the World Tower buildings in New York. It shows folk support for terror.

  2. Liat Kirby says:

It’s just staggering, the variety of people/organisations and the number of them, coming out of the woodwork after this terrible blow to the Jewish people.
To see and read all this has an unnerving effect, but also forms as focus and determination to defeat it.
