Montefiore and Masada sign agreement for future community campus
Sydney’s Montefiore and Masada College, together with the Hyman Abramovich Foundation (HAF), have signed a formal Deed of Option that could result in Montefiore acquiring Masada College’s surplus land.
The agreement follows last year’s Heads of Agreement and grants Montefiore the right to purchase the land at a predetermined price once planning and financial conditions have been met. Planning is already underway so that a development application can be lodged with the relevant approval authorities.

David Freeman, Montefiore President, and Tom Mautner, Montefiore Hon Treasurer, signing the formal agreement with Masada and HAF.
Montefiore President David Freeman and Hon Treasurer Tom Mautner signed the documents alongside representatives of Masada and the Hyman Abramovich Foundation, describing the milestone as a significant step in retaining the site for the benefit of the Jewish community.
Montefiore intends to develop the land into an integrated retirement and aged care campus, with independent living apartments, a state-of-the-art residential aged care facility, landscaped gardens, wellbeing and fitness spaces, and improved parking and access. The project aims to meet the growing demand for quality accommodation for older members of the Jewish community while strengthening Jewish life on the North Shore.
For Masada College, the transaction would create a stronger financial base, helping to keep Jewish education affordable for families and supporting investment in future infrastructure.
Freeman said the proposal would meet the needs of both current and future generations. “This project would answer a clear and growing need for quality retirement living and aged care, whilst also sustaining Jewish education on the North Shore of Sydney. In that respect, it would be a win-win for every generation of our community.”
