In a groundbreaking step aimed at revolutionising Jewish education in Sydney, Masada College, on behalf of the Hyman Abramovich Foundation (HAF), has announced the launch of the HAF Jewish Bursary.

This transformative program is designed to make a premier Jewish education more accessible to families within the Jewish community. Founded over three decades ago, HAF has dedicated itself exclusively to supporting Jewish education at Masada College, reflecting its mission to ensure Jewish education remains central to the North Shore Jewish community while welcoming more families to partake in the Masada experience.
The HAF Jewish Bursary, managed by Masada College, represents a pioneering effort born from a landmark collaboration between Masada College, HAF, and the Sir Moses Montefiore Jewish Home (Montefiore). This initiative follows last year’s sale of the Masada oval to Montefiore, a transaction that has enabled HAF to launch this once-in-a-generation bursary program.
Scheduled to commence in Term 1 of 2026, the HAF Jewish Bursary aims to provide significant financial relief to Jewish families seeking quality education for their children. Highlights of the bursary include:
  • A 40% reduction in tuition fees for every Jewish child.
  • Availability for all current and new Jewish students from Kindergarten through Year 12.
  • No means-testing required.

Steven Gross, Chairperson of HAF, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative: “HAF is delighted to offer this Jewish bursary as a strategic investment in the future of Sydney’s North Shore Jewish community. By enabling more Jewish families to join Masada College, we’re enriching the school’s cultural identity and enhancing opportunities for quality education, ensuring the continuity of Jewish life and learning for generations.”

Howard Sher and Danny Cohen, Co-Presidents of Masada College, added: “This isn’t just a bursary; it’s a vision for the future of our community. The HAF Jewish Bursary directly addresses affordability challenges, ensuring that more Jewish children have access to an outstanding Jewish education.”
Raquel Charet, Principal of Masada College, commented: “The generosity of the Hyman Abramovich Foundation will echo for decades, touching thousands of lives, and we are profoundly grateful for their vision and commitment.”
