A lifeline for Israel’s southern communities
In Israel’s southern periphery, life has never been simple. These are communities built on the foundations of resilience and courage – families living under constant threat but determined to thrive.
For decades, JNF Australia has stood shoulder to shoulder with these border communities, and the newly released JNF Australia Impact Report 2024 reveals just how deep that support runs.
What happens to the communities and families of the Negev is personal. JNF Australia is ensuring that its commitment goes beyond words.
The report outlines 23 key projects across Israel’s south, part of more than 50 projects and over $13.5 million, which have been distributed in Israel since October 7 2023. These projects impact every aspect of life – from wellness and education to trauma recovery and agricultural innovation. These aren’t abstract concepts – they’re projects with significant outcomes, developed in close collaboration with those on the ground.
One such project is the new multi-use sports complex in Kibbutz Nir Am. Funded by JNF Australia, this space isn’t just for recreation. It’s a symbol of healing, providing a place for connection and normalcy in a region that has seen far too little of it. Or the renovation of the music centre at Kibbutz Yad Mordechai, which now offers children, seniors, and families a creative outlet that also serves as a therapeutic lifeline.
In the Alonim School, Sha’ar HaNegev, students now have access to an “ImagineBox” – an innovative and interactive space that promotes both learning and healing.
Other projects include the Emek Hefer Healing Place for trauma treatment programs. Located in the serene Emek Hefer, the Healing Place combines clinical and alternative therapies in a peaceful, nature-filled setting, promoting healing for both mind and body. The centre offers intensive group, individual and family therapy sessions including yoga, sound therapy and psychodrama.
The scale and reach of JNF Australia’s work are profound. Every project is selected and implemented in direct consultation with local stakeholders, ensuring that the support meets urgent, on-the-ground needs. It’s a model based on trust, transparency, and deep care.
The “Healing Israel’s South” Annual Campaign 2024, which anchored many of these efforts, reflects a profound understanding: recovery isn’t just about rebuilding structures. It’s about restoring lives and delivering hope. JNF Australia is doing just that – one project, one community, one family at a time.
