The Kindertransport Association, Australian division, is commemorating World Kindertransport Day at a special Shabbat service at the Great Synagogue, Sydney. The commemoration is being co-hosted by the National Council of Jewish Women of Australia NSW on Saturday, November 24that 9.30am.

The mission of the Kindertransport Association is to reunite and bring together Kinder, Child Survivors and their descendants, and the public to commemorate the story of the Kindertransport Scheme as an important part of Holocaust History. 10000 children and babies were rescued from certain death by the Kindertransport scheme that operated in Europe between December 1938 and September 1939. Most of the Kinder were Jewish (not all) and some Kinder will be in attendance.

This year, Rabbi Dr Benjamin Elton will lead a Shabbat service dedicated to blessing and remembering the parents of Kinder and Child survivors. Rabbi Dr Elton will also recite a prayer for the parents and recite their names. Any Kinder, child survivors of their descendants who wish to have their parents and grandparents blessed, please contact the Rabbi or reply to janetmerkur@gmail.comor text on 0409035028, or you can also send your RSVP to admin@ncjwnsw.orgor reply by phoning NCJWA NSW division on 9363 0257. Kinder and child survivors as far afield as Noosa and Melbourne who are unable to attend have given the names of their families to be blessed.

A special kiddush will follow the service.

As Chairperson of the Kindertransport Association Janet Merkur will address the congregation and welcome official guests such as the Deputy Consul of Germany Mr Karl Steitz, Councillor Leon Waxman of Waverley Council, and Mrs Miri Orden and Maxine Bachmayer, co-Presidents of NCJWA  NSW.
