This account omits the fact that Hungary implemented the Hungarian equivalent of Germany’s Nuremberg Laws when Hungary joined with Germany and Italy as an Axis power. It paints a far rosier picture than the lived reality of the WWII period as experienced by the Hungarian Jewish Community. I have been amongst the Hungarian Jewish community since my early teens – almost sixty years. I have had many friends who suffered through this and lost family members. They all described the privations they suffered prior to 1944 (those who were old enough to do so).
