The subject matter is huge and the nature of it, and its significance, forces a response that involves the choice of assisting the vulnerable and abused and protecting future possible victims, or assisting and protecting those in power who abuse that power in the name of religion to maintain an image of righteous, infallible religious institutions. How can we as Jews, condemn the silence of the majority of those in the world willing to avert their eyes at the persecution, abuse and murder of the Jewish people, if we are willing to avert our own eyes at the abuse of Jewish children, or, worse pretend it can’t or doesn’t happen?
