The Turnbull Government should support US extradition request

The US, Australia’s most important ally, is seeking the extradition of the convicted Hamas terrorist Ahlam al-Tamimi from Jordan.

In March the FBI issued a warrant for Ahlam al-Tamimi which described her as “armed & dangerous”. She is living at large in Jordan after being convicted and jailed and then released in the Shalit exchange.

Australia and the US are partners in the international fight on terrorism, we support each other’s actions. However, in this case involving an Australian family mourning the loss of a beloved daughter, our government needs to take action to support the Hamas terrorist extradition.

It would cost the Turnbull government nothing to publicly support the US extradition request or to make representations to the Jordanian Embassy in Canberra.

I placed the attached advertisement in this week’s Australian Jewish media comparing Tamimi’s current freedom with the status of Daesh terrorist Neil Prakash, who is to be extradited to Australia from Turkey.

I also attach the passionate but reasoned oped published in The Australian by Malki’s father Arnold Roth, who also points out that Australia and the United States both financially support Jordan.

For quite some time now I have been seeking Prime Minister Turnbull to match his tough talk rhetoric on terrorism by seeking justice for an Australian victim of terror.

Many of my constituents in Melbourne Ports know and sympathise deeply with Arnold and Frimet Roth, parents of Malki Roth who was murdered along with 14 others at the Sbarro Pizza Restaurant in Jerusalem in 2002.

Maybe Michael should round up some of his parliamentary colleagues……..all justice seeking politicians elected by and paid by the taxpayer, including the Jewish community.
