The Mezzuzah and the swastika

A woman in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs found her front door Mezzuzah lying on the ground and reaffixed by herself…but there was a surprise in store.

The Mezzuzah and the swastika

She told the story to Rabbi Eli Schlanger who was hosting the Chabad of Bondi Shabbat dinner for the Shabbat Project at the Bondi Pavilion and said that she was concerned that she may have not affixed the Mezzuzah properly.

He had put the mezzuzah a month ago at her home in Coogee and he told her to send him an image on her phone when Shabbat was out.

When he checked out the Mezzuzah all was kosher…but next to it was a swastika pressed into her doorpost.

He said: “I immediately noticed the despicable engravement next to the holy Mezuah.

My grandparents lost their entire family in Nazi Germany today they have over 100 descendants who devote their lives to their memory by practising Judaism openly.

MY RESPONSE IS TO PUT UP 100 MEZUZAHS BY CHANUKAH.”

He told J-Wire: “I have had five Mezzuzahs donated to me and a man in the film business communicated with him from Los Angeles where he is on business with his boss. Next Wednesday he has invited me to Fox Studios in Sydney where he wants me to affix a Mezzuzah on his office door.”

The etched swastika may have caused an influx of Mezzuzahs on places which may have never had one.
