Hi Brian, Leon and Mary,

What a special post to find!

I am sorry to tell you all, but Mary goes daughter has passed away.

I am Deb Levy and Hillel was my Papa (technically step-grandfather). He married my grandmother Sally.

Do you remember her working at the factory too Brian. She was a very beautiful woman (inside and out) from Vienna.

Your kind words about my Papa mean a lot Anna I know they will mean a lot to my mum too (his step-daughter Diane).

Best wishes to you all,

Deb

Dear Mary, I am pleased I voiced my opinion of your uncle and it was received by a family member.I must say that whilst he was at the helm the company was "alive". People worked hard, laughed, enjoyed themselves and the company was the fastest growing in NZ. On one occasion when we changed from stockings to pantyhose there were many packaging inserts with the Holeproof brand evident.
One of the local agents had his pilots licence and flew over Auckland and threw out said inserts , (thousands of them). Mr. Korman rewarded him for this cost free advertising. Can you imagine this happening in this day and age?
Kind regards,
Brian.

Thank you Brian for your reply. I live in the U.S. now
And miss that generation of my family. His daughter, Mary
Is still living but not in good health.
Growing old is not what it's cracked up to be. We pray for good health
And a life free from ailments. I hope you are well and it was so nice
to hear such nice things said about my uncle. My mother was his sister.
Stay well and enjoy life as much as possible.
Sincerely,
Mary

Hi Mary,
Nice to hear from a family member,
I joined the company in Christchurch in 1970 as a commission agent with nothing in the bank. I was guaranteed a set monthly pay for six months after which I was on a set commission and a car was provided with money from a car fund, to which all agents subscribed 10% of their gross commission,so it was self sufficient,no interest was charged and none received. The second car they offered me was a Chrysler ( a company car at book value) which was 2 years younger than Mr. Korman`s! I accepted a transfer to Rotorua in 1973. I stayed with the company for 28 years under various operators but my earliest years were the happiest. Brian.

Hillel Korman was my uncle. Happy to hear he was an endearing employer.
While he lived in New Zealand, the rest of the family lived in Australia.
We only saw him a couple of times a year. I had the pleasure of seeing him in the U.S.A several times when he visited his stepson.
I have lived in the U.S. Since 1967.
