A binding agreement has been signed between Rabbi Benzion Milecki, the Secured Creditors, the Liquidator, South Head & District Synagogue and Kehillat Kadimah.

Rabbi Benzion Milecki

In a statement Kehillat Kadimah said: “Rabbi Benzion Milecki has accepted a full and final settlement of his claims against the liquidator of South Head & District Synagogue and the secured creditors have agreed to withdraw their defamation actions.

The effect of this settlement is that South Head & District Synagogue (Sydney) (in liquidation) can now begin a path to come out of liquidation. This brings an end to the matter. All parties wish each other well in their future endeavours and each will go their own way without any direct or indirect interference with the other.

The congregation of South Head & District Synagogue (Sydney) (in liquidation) thank Rabbi and Rebbitzin Henya Milecki and their family for over 30 years of dedicated service to the community and we can all take pride in the fact that the community has shown continued strength, enthusiasm for, and commitment to Orthodox Judaism.

We look forward to a vibrant, relevant and successful community in the premises which has served Rose Bay for close on 70 years.

In the coming period we will share details of the implications on Kehillat Kadimah of this outcome, including the process and structure to ensure our community will retain its home at 662-666 Old South Head Road, Rose Bay.”

I am sure that Rabbi Milecki would be welcome in many cities of the world !!
I would advise him to clarify contractual conditions at the outset to remove any uncertainty that may arise from the contract.

  2. Selwyn Smith says:

I wonder if the self appointed expert Mr Robbie Krochmalik would like to give us his view on the settlement ??

  3. Zac Sher says:

Since when was a Holy Shul conducted from “ Premises “ ??

  4. David Green ( Modiin ) says:

At last sanity prevails.A wonderful Pesach for all concerned as the future looks rosy for the kehilla.

  5. Adrian Jackson says:

Rule No 1 – don’t spend money you do not have. Always keep in the black not in the red in business and other life matters. Debt is bad and financial competence is king.

So sad that this saga carried on for so long.
I feel sorry that the Rabbi and his family had to endure this humiliation after such devoted service .
Both communities and their Rabonim will now have to enter into contracts that are fair to both parties and enforceable in both a Beth Din and/or Court of Law.

      • Norman says:

Indeed, shame on the new community for allowing this travesty to occur.

Yes, Rabbi Milecki made severe mistakes, that however doesn’t allow the community to treat him like dirt. After 30 years of dedicated service, 7 days a week, 16 hours a day, such a send off is a moral stain on the community.

Again, I reiterate, mistakes made by Rabbi Milecki do not allow the other party to act in such a disgraceful manner.

Rabbi Milecki will now retire in humiliation and shame with no sendoff and proper recognition of the work that he did.

How can the leadership of Kadima not see this, how trampled down can a man be?!

        • Alan Kuper says:

I believe that the newly named kehilla, which is comprised of members of the former South Head Congregation should appoint Rabbi Milecki as “ Rabbi Emeritus “ and pay him the respect that he deserves.
Whatever the facts of the dispute may have been, Rabbi Milecki devoted his life to the Shul and surely he and his family should be treated with kindness and KAVOD.
