Paul Winter, your assessment seems to contradict Kevin Rudd's opinion, I wonder if he is speaking for himself or on behalf of the party. Your comments are very interesting and not less valuable that other opinions.

Interesting stuff, I enjoyed your comments which seem to contradict the "long discussion" by Kevin Rudd, then again, I think that was one of the issues with Kevin, explanations are too long for anybody to understand or anybody else to concentrate for such long periods while reading the comments.

thank you for giving us another opinion on the matter

A long-winded accretion of sound bites who has no place in speaking about foreign affairs and certainly not about Israel's relations with its non-citizen Arab squatters.

Rudd speaks about Australia's concern for fairness and international law. At the same time he stronly supports the Pal's status change at the UN. Hardly fair to a friend and a democracy. And certainly not much respect for law when the PA's move means the abandonment of the Oslo accords.

Rudd talks of the importance of Israel to come to an agreement with Abbas' PA which he describes as moderate. Absolute rubbish! The PA differs from Hamas in that it wages war by all means other than using weapons. It uses lawfare, incitement, BDS support, etc; the UN move demonstrates its contempt for law and past agreements.

Like all other so-called friends of Israel, Rudd pretends to agonise what will befall Israel should it not make peace along the discredited lines of Olmert and Barak. He prattles on as though nothing has happened since 2000. Forget about the terror victims, the disasterous withdrawal from Gaza and Lebanon, the wars Israel was forced to fight and the lack of legitimacy of the leaders of either part of "Palestine". His omniscience trumps the ignorant Jews who have given up on Abbas and his merry band of cut-throats, antisemites and kleptomaniacs and on Abbas' pretensions that the PA speaks fo Gaza. He presents as a mandarin in some colonial adminstration.

In his enormous wisdom Rudd tells us that Israel must discuss the "right of return", the status of its capital and land swaps in an agreement based on the 1967 "borders". Why he bothered to speak so long instead of just referring to the PA's demands, I'll never know. And then, to show that he is a proper turkey, he proposes Turkey as a facilitator of peace; he seems to not know that Turkey is now an islamist enemy of Israel. And of course he refers to international guarantees. Right. From the same mob that just upgraded the PA's status.

Rudd could have saved his breath if he just said that Labour needs the mohammedan vote to keep government. That not opposing the Pals Australia can better suck up to countries which buy our goods. But that would have just been honest. And he is a politician.
