Award-winning documentary filmmaker Danny Ben-Moshe hopes to start production soon on his latest project on a yet to be proved story of how a Melbourne Jew planned to carry out a revenge killing of a Nazi in Sydney.

Screen Australia is partly funding the project and described it as “a feature documentary centred on Jack, a middle-aged Jewish doctor in Melbourne, who stumbles on a family secret after his father passes away – in the 1950s his Holocaust survivor and partisan father allegedly engaged in a revenge killing of a Nazi. The film follows Jack on his journey to find the truth and along the way, joined by his brother John, he discovers a vigilante group of Holocaust survivors which hunted down Nazi war criminals in Australia.

Writer, director and producer Danny Ben-Moshe teams up with producer Lizzette Atkins who previously collaborated on documentaries including My Mother’s Lost Children”.

Danny Ben-Moshe told J-Wire:  “I met Jack at a social event and he knew I was a filmmaker and asked if I had any ideas of how he could do research into his father’s story.

He explained how after his father passed away his older brother and older first cousin casually mentioned overhearing a heated conversation in Yiddish in the 1950s about his Dad Boris going to Sydney to undertake a revenge killing of  Nazi.

Jack, was not born until the 60s, wants to know if this happened and if so who the Nazi was.

The research followed the normal course, seeing who in the family network, including other Holocaust survivors, knew what, what documents existed and we spoke to a few experts. This led to enough evidence to explore the story on film. The actual investigation is ahead of us.”

Production is scheduled to start early next year.

I Googled his name and the Australian Dictionary of Biography has his detailed story. Before he died by suicide in Sydney according to that document. He worked everywhere in the old world and China as well as in the new world in Australia. He changed nationality a few times too.

wow, fascinating story. Is there any documented evidence of when Boris headed up to Sydney? Days off work recorded, diary entries, a usual pattern somehow not followed and recorded, train or plane records? Suppose if you have that then you look for people in Sydney disappearing in that time frame. Good luck guys.
